Effective way to learn JavaScript

I am new at JavaScript and find it extremely difficult to grasp the concepts.
The biggest problem is that I am a very practical person and lea things best with practical implementation of code.
However JavaScript,understanding the principles of arrays,functions etc are fine to understand,but fail to see how these principles are practically implemented into web development (Front-end)

Are there any suggestions on how to lea JavaScript coupled with projects or practical examples?
