Javascript click action & delay

I don't know the extent of the forum / never posted & very new to java. But my problem is, I want a button , when i click it it goes to a gif (animates my button) waits for 2 seconds for the gif to finish and then takes me to the new page. I've tried and failed...if the extent is too far for forums, I apologise...but worth a go!
