Would you like to join the instrumentation and Calibration Services Department, part of the Specialist Engineering Capability Group (SECG) within BAE Systems Submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer at our site in Barrow.
As a Principal Engineer - Metrology, you will be part of a team who are integral to the safety of the crew and Barrow site employees, you will be ensuring the design intent of the Engineering Function are adhered to and moving forward you will be involved with an evolving complexity to new classes of submarine, applying skills and techniques learned through activities on those currently in service and build phase
This role will also provide you with the opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer- Metrology will involve:
Supporting, developing and maintaining bespoke electronic and software instrumentation systems
Managing and supporting the IT development requirements within the department
Following quality processes for project plaing, configuration control and acceptance testing for development of instrumentation
Supporting the Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (NERO) and Shield Survey Radiation Monitoring Systems as required
Your skills and qualifications:
Degree in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering with software and electronics experience or related field
Knowledge of database development and use of the SQL language
Experience of Programming in C, C++ or C#
Experience with development of firmware and electronics for microcontroller based solutions
The following skills would be desirable:
Knowledge of system development methodologies and techniques (including requirements capture and analysis, plaing, design, implementation, and acceptance testing)
Knowledge of system and software quality processes and standards
Knowledge of digital and analogue electronics
Experience in fault finding and repair of electronic instrumentation
Chartership with Professional Engineering body, or working towards professional registration
